Sydney-based singer-songwriter Moody Beach has shared her new EP, Assembly of the Wild. To celebrate the release, the singer has shared with MILKY five things she learnt whilst making the EP!

Speaking of the release, the singer shares: "Key messages in my EP and the comic follow my personal experience as a female musician working a corporate job to fund her music career. In her office job, the musician’s outspoken and body comfortable art leads to bullying and discrimination. This story has a resonance beyond my music. Women are constantly told to 'be their real self at work'. Often this invitation is hollow. For myself, and others, the arts have become a refuge for self-expression, but the two worlds should not be mutually exclusive."

Without further adieu, here are five things Moody Beach learnt whilst making Assembly of the Wild...

ONE

Work with a producer who backs you and your abilities. I played the most guitar I’ve ever played on a finished product working with Kim Moyes because he encouraged me to, and now I’m one of those people that has lists of guitars I’d like to buy - thanks, Kim!

TWO

If there’s charm in the demo, honour it. There were little slip ups I’d made in guitar leads on my demos that both Kim and I decided needed to remain in the track for different reasons. I’m not into “perfect”, anyway.

THREE

Inspiration can come from the most unlikely places. I was working my 9-5 from home when writing for this release because of COVID and never thought a prickly email exchange would result in a song.

FOUR

Big drum energy is undeniably a thing.

FIVE

Art is always the best catharsis. I’m releasing an Assembly of the Wild comic that shares my experience being a 9-5er by day and a body comfortable musician by night, so I got two cathartic hits out of this EP - I’m cheering.
