Italian singer-songwriter, Damiano David has unveiled his new single, Next Summer.
Known as the frontman of Italian rock band Måneskin, David made his solo debut with Silverlines late last year, tapping Labrinth for production on the track. The release was followed up by Born With A Broken Heart, which ushered in a new sound for the musician fuelled by romanticism and pop-rock sonics.
This new sound continues on his latest offering, Next Summer. Opening with strummed acoustic guitar, the track swells to an anthemic chorus that channels the stylings of Stephen Sanchez and crooner artists. David's distinct vocal tones fill the space, delivering a raw and impassioned performance fuelled by the songs introspective and emotive lyricism.
“At first listen, the song speaks about youthful love—an unrequited summer romance," he shares of the release. "But on a deeper level, it reveals a much larger reflection. It’s an allegory of life—How sometimes we can be prisoners of ourselves, our fears, our insecurities, our inability to change. Our failure to see the world and life from a different perspective in the crucial and defining moments of existence."
Next Summer arrives alongside an official visual, directed by YOUNUTS! We find the musician in prison, with juxtaposing scenes of violence and tenderness that feed into the overall love story narrative. Beneath the surface, we are offered a more existential reflection of the idea of time as a prison, and a metaphor for life.
David will return to Australia this October for his debut headline tour. The musician will hit the stage at Sydney's Enmore Theatre on October 22, before performing at The Forum in Melbourne on October 24. Tickets are on sale now!
