Sydney singer CXLOE is back with a brand new track, Cry & Drive. Following from her debut EP Heavy Part I, the track serves as the first taste of the singers forthcoming, follow-up EP. The vulnerable track is an ode to the singers late grandmother, featuring the final voice mail she received.
Speaking of the track, CXLOE shares: “I wrote 'Cry & Drive' late last year, a couple days after my grandma passed away. I found myself crying and driving on the way home from the hospital, to the point where it was dangerous. I was on the phone to my partner and he told me to pull over and not cry and drive.”
She elaborates further, “I found 2020 very displacing. I didn’t, and still don’t know where I belong in the world and I often find myself in my car driving to feel like I’m going somewhere. I spent a lot of time with my Grandma in the coming months before she passed away and told her how I was feeling. She was the biggest fan of my music so to make sure she forever lives on in my life and in my music I decided to put her last voicemail she ever sent me at the end of the song. It kills me every time I hear it, but it's a perfect bookend to her life, this song, and my grieving.”
Kicking off on May 21 in Melbourne, the tour will continue on to Wombye, Wollongong, Adelaide, Perth and Sydney, before wrapping up in Newcastle on June 13. “I’m so stoked to be finally touring my debut EP Heavy Part I! I feel so lucky we get to play live music in Australia and can't wait to play these songs that I’ve been sitting with for so long.” CXLOE shares.
