Our April Book Club pick is Clare Fletcher’s Five Bush Weddings.
Five Bush Weddings is a novel I look forward to reading again and again. I loved the premise of the story, using our lead heroine's job to connect many facets together. I also loved the social media aspect and how it framed the varying stories whilst all set against the great Aussie rural backdrop.
It’s an Australian Romantic comedy that you just can’t put down. Weddings, Photography, nature, community and sassy characters are all wins for me. Ultimately it shines a light on country living, the traditions and expectations within - especially when it comes to the people you’ve spent most of your life around. You experience a multitude of emotions, and ultimately certain parts stay with you. I feel like there are characters who you can’t help but respond to, because truth be told we know so many of these characters in our own lives.
I was also drawn to the fact it was very cinematic (I was scoring the book in my head) as it reminded me of some beloved classic Aussie films. Fletcher’s descriptions really capture the feel and emotion behind the characters and how they are placed within each setting. Interestingly enough the book will be made into a film, which I’m so looking forward to. I’ll be re-reading this for sure.
Clare Fletcher’s Five Bush Weddings is available through Penguin Books Australia.
