ARIA Award winning singer-songwriter Amy Shark has kicked off a new era of her career with Only Wanna Be With You. We caught up with the singer to chat about the release, this new avenue of her artistry, taking on Australian Idol and so much more!
Delving deeper into a pop-based sonic realm, Shark brings in nostalgia-fuelled synth work in lieu of indie and alt-pop influences, capturing the euphoric nature of 80's synth-pop. The track explores the idea longing for someone and being unable to fill the void of them with someone else, inspired by a run in with a former flame at a corporate music event. Shark's distinctive vocals ring throughout the track, bringing introspective and storytelling lyricism to life above driving percussion and fuzzy punk guitar work.
Shark's 2016 breakthrough single Adore has reached 6x Platinum, alongside I Said Hi and Mess Her Up, with the latter reaching 3x Platinum. The singer has two full-length albums under her belt, Love Monster and Cry Inside, both reaching #1 on the ARIA charts. Having wrapped a mammoth national tour, Shark scored a nomination for Best Live Act and this years ARIA Awards, and was recently announced as a judge on Channel 7's reboot of Australian Idol. With more new music on the horizon, 2023 is shaping up to be the year of the Shark.
