Adelaide-born, Melbourne-based artist, rapper and songwriter Allday has announced the release of his fourth studio album, Drinking With My Smoking Friends. Shifting his sonic focus, the record is set to explore a guitar driven palette, giving fans another taste of the album with his new single, Void.

Moving away from his usual style, the musician has expanded his musical palette, taking inspiration from The Pixies, The Cure and Oasis to create an alt-rock infused soundscape. Conceptually, the record charts the story of two lovers, a kind of disillusioned Bonnie and Clyde, hellbent on fleeing a dead-end town with stars in their eyes. Covering moments that the musician classifies as “extended youth”, the record came to be after Allday returned from a trip to Los Angeles.

"I came back to Australia from LA and I was working out what comes next. My music has always been somewhat varied: there's different types of rap, really pop songs, house-y stuff," he says. The shift in sonics came after feeling compelled to further explore more open, sentimental melodies after working with producer Japanese Wallpaper on In Motion, a track that appeared on his 2017 record Speeding.

Drinking With My Smoking Friends sees the musician team up with a slew of Aussie talent, ranging from Johnny Took and Matt Mason from DMA's on guitar to Simon Lam of electro outfit KLLO who joined Gaynor and Strum to write on the record. As did singer-songwriter Hayley Mary, Delta Riggs’ Michael Tramonte and Elliott Hammond; and Joji Malani, formerly of Gang of Youths. Gab Strum (aka Japanese Wallpaper) co-wrote on several songs, and contributed production and mixing.

Allday has also announced he'll be hitting the road this August, performing a string of shows across the country. Kicking off in Perth, the tour will see the musician take to the stage in Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne, before wrapping up in Brisbane. Tickets are on sale 9AM Local Time on Thursday 18 March.

The musical project of Tomas Gaynor, Allday released his debut album, Startup Cult, in 2014 to rave reviews. Since then, he’s dropped two more studio albums, 2017’s Speeding and 2019’s Starry Night over the Phone. The releases saw him achieve a Platinum single, 5 x Gold-certified singles and 1 x Gold EP. No stranger to performing live, the musician has performed massive sold-out headline shows and taken to the stage at some of the worlds most iconic festivals.
