Melbourne songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and film composer Albert Salt has delivered his new EP, We're All Going To Be Alright. To celebrate the release, the musician is taking MILKY through the release track by track!
“We’re All Going To Be Alright is ultimately about family. The songs focus on the people and places that are most important in my life. Whether that be my girlfriend and my family or friends from my past and present, and the places I feel most at home.” Salt shares.
I KNOW FOR SURE THAT I’M NOT SURE
This was the first song written for the EP back in July 2021, and it was really the track that drove the new guitar focused direction of the record. I really wanted the choruses to absolutely belt you over the head and really make people sit up and take notice of where the music is heading.
I WAS MEANT TO COME HOME FOR EASTER
I Was Meant To Come Home For Easter was written during Easter this year while my brother and I both came down with Covid. It also was around the time my girlfriend and I visited her hometown Wagga Wagga for the 10 year anniversary of her fathers passing. It was an unbelievably emotional experience and something I really wanted to capture in a song.
AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL
Australian Football sonically is very influenced by American Football, a band I was introduced to after Matty Healy from The 1975 kept referencing them in interviews. It was born out of the opening guitar riff which is an unplugged electric guitar mic’d up with an iPhone. This created the direction of the track and I just built on it from there. Lyrically it’s about where I’m from and growing up there and about the friends you have when you're younger. I had a friend that was tragically involved in a car accident that claimed his life and it’s something I wanted to write about for a while.
COMO PARK
I’m extremely fortunate to have this beautiful park as my backyard. I’ve had so many incredible experiences here and really wanted to write a song attempting to capture that feeling. The instrumental of this track I had initially created in March 2021 and it was always something that I wanted to use for something special. The initial version was much less structured but when I started writing the lyrics, it seemed to really work well with a more traditional song structure. The song itself feels very stream of consciousness which I think works really nicely with the constantly moving piano and strings.
