Known for his roles as Prince Caspian in The Chronicles of Narnia and General Kirigan in Netflix's Shadow and Bone, Ben Barnes has made his foray into music, last week unveiling his his debut EP, Songs For You. Featuring the singles 11:11 and Rise Up, the release arrives after years of sharing covers to his social platforms, which left fans wanting more.
Building upon his own poetry, life experiences, and a story of a badass pirate, Barnes continues his career as a storyteller, this time in a new medium.Weaving together conceptual threads of love and hope, Barnes explores the duality of people with vulnerable and intimate lyricism, brought to life by his smooth and captivating vocals, soaring above jazzy piano, sparkling guitars and flourishing piccolo trumpets. Songs For You introduces us to the sonic exploration of Barnes' musical endeavours, existing within the realms of soul-pop, jazz and traditional pop.
Throughout the release cycle, Barnes has shared visuals for two songs off the EP, teaming up with fellow actors and directors from his previous film and television projects. Directed by Shadow and Bone director Lee Toland Krieger, the visual for 11:11 saw thw singer star alongside Evan Rachel Wood, as we followed the duo throughout their day, arriving at a heritage theatre, where Barnes puts his love on show. More recently, the musician shared the emotional visual for Rise Up, which was directed by Georgia King and stars his The Punisher co-star, Floriana Lima.
Having been singing and playing the drums since an early age, Barnes has offered up fleeting moments of his musicianship throughout his film career. Most prominently in the 2014 film Jackie & Ryan, the actor took on the role of a train hopping musician, performing songs for the films soundtrack.
