Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, Lucian Rice has unveiled his new single, Can’t You See. To celebrate the release, the musician has shared with MILKY five things he thinks everyone should know about him.
“I had just started seeing someone new after a lengthy relationship. The idea of something casual felt super empty and I wanted this person to give me something more than just the night. Naively, I wanted them to be as big in my life as the other person was - I didn’t know any other way.” Rice says of the release.
IT’S LUCIAN
Lu-shin. Not Lu-see-in or Lu-shee-in. And yes, that really is my last name.
I’M NOT REALLY A GUITARIST
I started off playing drums and then moved onto the bass. As I got into writing more I would pick up a friend's guitar or a school guitar and just power chord everything. I still google chord shapes and can’t play a standard D shape well.
AUTOTUNE SAVED MY LIFE
Well, not really - but it taught me how to sing. I still wouldn’t call myself a “singer” but it lets me try melodies I wouldn’t be comfortable attempting otherwise and unlocks so much. It also sounds sick lol.
I HAVE AN ALARM EVERY DAY AT 9:30 PM TO LISTEN TO MUSIC
It’s a bit dopey, but I sometimes forget! I like to try spend an hour or so every night just finding something new to inspire me. The alarm sorta grounds me and is a reminder to take a break and really just sorta sit and listen to stuff. It makes my friends laugh when it goes off.
AOTEAROA
I’m from Aotearoa. I kinda forget I grew up on a small little island tucked away from most of the world. With my phone in my hand everything feels possible, but the fact that I'm surrounded by life changing scenery wherever I walk hasn’t really rubbed off yet.
