Australian singer-songwriter Siobhan Cotchin has shared her new single, Too Good To Be True. To celebrate the release, the singer has shared with MILKY five songs that influenced her new track.

"After a hectic breakup, we swear off dating and can’t even fathom the idea of doing it all again, but there’s always someone who falls through the cracks and lets you break all your rules. I think one of the most beautiful things about being human is being able to feel all of these huge emotions, it hurts but it’s amazing to actually feel something." Cotchin shares.

"I feel like this song is the perfect introduction to a new era. It’s still me but a little more honest. I’m still a rock chick at heart, but I’m bringing in some more pop-esque elements and showing a softer, more vulnerable side to myself.”

Cotchin is currently in the midst of a national tour, hosting her own headline shows alongside supporting Matchbox Twenty and Goo Goo Dolls on their national tour. Next month, the singer will support Boo Seeka in Western Australia. Tickets are on sale now!

MINE - TAYLOR SWIFT

I will forever and always look to Taylor for songwriting inspiration regardless of whatever vibe I’m going for. With Too Good To Be True, I wanted more of a pop edge but still with a dose of country twang and rock so Taylor’s record Speak Now felt like a good place to start for sonic inspiration. Mine has that perfect balance of twang and pop and I love the way her vocals sit in the mix. The storytelling of the lyrics is elite (obviously) and Tim Nelson and I really wanted to make a chorus that popped like this one does.

IF IT MAKES YOU HAPPY - SHERYL CROW

Sheryl Crow is the queen of country rock and is another artist I always look to for inspiration. This song in particular is so iconic and I find her vocal performance particularly inspiring. I love the mix between the acoustic and electric as well.

CALL ME MAYBE - CARLY RAE JEPSEN

This was Tim Nelson’s reference track for us when we were writing to get into the headspace of the pop realm. This song is so cleverly crafted and I absolutely adore Carly Rae Jepsen. We loved the sound of the strings in this one and we wanted to add them in this song too, so listen out for them!

THE STEPS - HAIM

This song is sonically so interesting, their whole catalogue of music is so innovative to me. I love the guitar tones and harmonies in this particular song, those were the main things we took inspiration from. HAIM are one of my favourite bands and will continue to be an inspiration to me throughout all the different eras of my music.

ALL I EVER ASKED - RACHEL CHINOURIRI

I am so obsessed with everything about this song and was what I was listening to around the time we wrote the track. The verse and chorus melodies are everything and I love the intimate and delicate vocals. The lyrics are killer and I love the electric guitar sound. The harmonies in the chorus were also a huge inspiration for our own chorus too!
