Naarm-based Wiradjuri artist YNG Martyr has treated us with the announcement of his debut album, Lovesick, due out this August. The news is accompanied by the release of his collaboration with Australian artist Allday, As I Should.

Opening with lulling guitar melodies, the track finds both artists offering introspective and intimate rumination on love and heartbreak. Delivering melodic flows above pared back production, As I Should offers threads of alt-pop within YNG Martyr's established hip-hop sound, delving deeper into his artistry and offering a taste of what is to come on Lovesick.

“YNG Martyr and I share an engineer and I've been a fan of his music for a while. When he sent me 'As I Should' it just needed 1 more verse, I sent him a verse back straight away. Actually he asked me to record it again, which was annoying but cool too because it showed me he had a strong vision for the song. So I did it again and that's what we have now." Allday says of the collaboration.

YNG Martyr shares of his forthcoming record, “Lovesick chronicles the journey we all face through life and love. It's my coming-of-age story, but not in the conventional sense. It's about growth born out of pain and introspection, and the lingering regret of not prioritising the person who meant the most to me. More than anything, this record is about trying to deal with the weeks, months and years after her.”

Lovesick is out August 11.
