Panic Attack is out now!

Last week, Brisbane singer-songwriter Spring Hill Walkers Club unveiled her debut EP, Panic Attack. If you're loving the release and want some insight into each track, we've got you covered! The singer has treated MILKY, taking us through the EP track by track.

SERTRALINE

Sertraline is the catchy bop off this EP for sure. I co-wrote this with my friend/producer Krishan Meepe - I had the bare bones and the lyrics & melody happening but nothing else felt right until he came up with the bass line. I thought that my antidepressant Sertraline had a cool sounding name, so it somehow made its way into the lyrics. Songwriting has always been a way for me to be really honest and process whatever I’m dealing with and this song came about when I was feeling pretty depressed and anxious, but channeling that into a song really helped a lot..

ANXIETY

This song is pretty close to my heart, it’s probably nearing 5 years old now but it’s one of the first songs I wrote that I was proud of, and I still love it. I was listening to a lot of Snail Mail at the time & the guitar for this came about when I was trying to figure out her song Pristine. The riff in the chorus keyboard is special to me too - originally I came up with it on this cute Casiotone MT-210 I have, with the plan to record it on guitar eventually. But I loved the warm tone so much I had to keep it, and ended up using it a few more times on the EP.

PANIC ATTACK

This is one of those songs that came together in ten or twenty minutes. I’d written down the line "one step forward and ten steps back, can’t get my life back on track" in my notes app at some stage, then picked up the guitar one day and had the first verse and chorus instantly. Recording this at Hunting Grounds studios was so beautiful, it was weirdly calming listening to it over and over while we tracked each part, and recording the vocals felt so fucking therapeutic.

YOU CAN’T WALK ALL OVER ME

You may notice a theme to my songs (could I be any more sad girl indie?) but this one is a much more upbeat and strong song about putting yourself first and not letting others bring you down with their shit. The drum fill at the beginning of the song is my favourite bit. At our one rehearsal before recording, Krishan asked Chrissy to come up with a fill and she rocked up to the recording session with this in the bag. Actually the drums in this whole song are my favourite, the massive cymbal hits are ridiculously fun & one of the shakers in the chorus was a tiny mushroom.
