Viva forever! The Spice Girls are celebrating the 25th Anniversary of their breakout debut single Wannabe with the release of a limited edition EP Wannabe25, that contains two remixes of the classic song, along with two never before released tracks. The release instantly catapulted Mel B, Emma Bunton, Mel C, Victoria Beckham and Geri Halliwell to worldwide stardom.

Wannabe was originally released on the 8th of July 1996, becoming a track that to this day remains a go to song for many a car trips, karaoke sessions or even one that we, as adults 25 years on, clean the house to. Scary, Baby, Sporty, Posh and Ginger Spice are bringing the feels back with their “mythical” track Feed Your Love, written around 1995 by the group and songwriters Richard “Biff” Stannard and Matt Rowe. Many knew about the songs existence, however had only ever heard a snippet of the track when it was leaked on to YouTube in 2016.

Speaking of the anniversary, the band share: “The Spice Girls belong to everyone and that’s why we want to mark 25 years of “Wannabe” by celebrating our incredible fans”. Taking the “Girl Power” motto to new heights with the phrase “People Power”, the ladies are celebrating on a global scale with the hashtag #IAMASPICEGIRL. The group are inviting all fans to share their stories using the hashtag (or email spicegirls@umusic.com) for a chance to be featured on the Spice Girls website and socials. Most of us will remember buying their Spice album back in 1996 (for some, aka me, it was their first album), dancing to their tracks in the living room, fighting over who got to pretend to be which Spice Girl in their friendship group, the Impulse Spice Girls fragrance clouds and saving up your pocket money to buy the Spice Girls Barbie Dolls, we’ll always remember iconic songs including the one that started it all, Wannabe.

Taking to social media, the Spice Girls themselves have shared tributes to commemorate the historic anniversary, Beckham shares: "I can't believe it's been 25 years since Wannabe was released!! The song that changed everything...". "With the help of our amazing fans that catapulted us on our incredible journey, so much love and thanks to you guys today, the wonderful Matt and Biff and my darling Spice Girls" Says Mel C. Bunton shared a montage visual of live performances and other Wannabe related content, commenting: "Feeling very emotional, what an amazing 25 years it has been. Thanks to our wonderful fans for making 5 girls dreams come true, loving the songs that we wrote, copying our dance routines and embracing our individuality."

Halliwell, who famously departed the group in 1998, recalled upon a gift she bestowed upon the band when they initially formed, "And the famous ring... I bought a gold ring for each of the girls when we first got together, as a symbol of our friendship. It’s a special bond that continues to stand the test of time. I’m so proud of everything we have achieved together, girls. BIG thank you to our amazing fans from all over the world for your support and loyalty." Mel B rounded out the tributes, sharing: "Wowza it’s been 25 years!! How unreal is that ! We are blessed to be Spice Girls but we are honoured to have the best fans in the world. We wouldn’t be anywhere without you and can’t thank you enough for all the love we’ve had from all of you for two and a half decades. We’ve all grown up together and we’ve shared so much which is why we’d like to put you all at the heart of our celebrations so we can celebrate YOU ! Whether you are Scary or Sporty there’s a Spice Girl in all of us and all of you so we want to see your very best memories and how you’re celebrating this year. Dress up. Go wild and share your photos and videos by using #IAmASpiceGirl"

Their iconic debut single Wannabe broke a multitude of records, topped the charts in 37 countries. Spice then went on to sell more than 31 million copies world-wide becoming the best selling album of all time by a female group. The new limited edition picture disc/casette features A1. “Wannabe” (Original Radio Edit), A2. “Wannabe” (Junior Vasquez Remix Edit), B1. “Wannabe” (Demo: Previously Unreleased) and B2. “Feed Your Love” (Previously Unreleased Song).
