22-year-old Sydney artist Selasie has today shared his debut single, Unnatural. Having signed to Island Records Australia, the release is the perfect introduction to Selasie.
Produced by Selasie's long-time collaborator, Melbourne-based producer GXNXVS, the track expertly weaves together 80s inspired synths with captivating beats, with nods to The Fugees cover of Killing Me Softly. The singers vocals simmer above alt-R&B sonics, creating a genre-bending release that conceptually tracks the lingering effects of the demise of a relationship.
Speaking of the track, the musician shares: “I didn't want to come out just as a rap artist. I wanted my first introduction to leave people guessing where I sit and what type of artists I am. This song doesn't feel totally pop. It doesn't feel totally R&B, it doesn't feel totally rap either. Unnatural is about heartbreak and missing someone, and not feeling the same after you go through something.”
Unnatural is out now! Listen to the track below.
