Shirin Kalyani is making her debut with her single, Naissance, due out tomorrow. If you’re like us and can’t wait, listen to the song right here on MILKY before its release!

Influenced by her idols Lana Del Rey, David Bowie, Massive Attack, Kalyani explores the melancholic side of pop, creating a dreamy soundscape upon which she explores life, death and the moments in between that fulfil and fuel us. Commenting on the human experience, the track serves as an ode to adolescence whilst fusing together dream-pop with alt-rock sounds to create a mesmerising and captivating listening experience.

Speaking of the track, Kalyani shares: “I had been going through an introspective period at the time I wrote Naissance, observing the world being plunged into turmoil and dealing with a lot of personal stuff as well. When I sat down at the piano, I was expecting to produce something dark and melancholic, but strangely, I found it started to take on this positive energy. I think looking back, this song represents the deep desire I had for a new beginning, both for myself and the world - and it morphed into a song about hope and survival.”

Within her music, Kalyani combines her love for upbeat and experimental electronica, dream-pop and alt-rock to bring a fresh yet nostalgic sound to the Sydney music scene. Fascinated with concepts like space and time, existence, politics and the human experience, Kalyani's songs are universal yet closely relate to her lived experience.
