Bringing together nostalgia-fuelled R&B and contemporary pop-based sonics, Brush It Off places Shea's soulful vocals atop minimal and atmospheric production from Aurelien Merz, laced with feel-good lyricism. Across the track, the singer wants to leave behind the harder times in life, and focus on the brighter side.
"On Brush It Off, I wanted to write a song that is the opposite of how I’ve been feeling; the small problems we fixate on and the bigger existential questions— at some point it becomes too much and you need to exhale. Writing Brush It Off was a way to temporarily get out of that headspace and allow myself to feel light and let go."
Serving as the latest song in a string of singles from the singer, Shea recently took a sabbatical from songwriting, instead focusing on her personal life. The time away from her craft helped form a new sonic direction, leaning into a more alt-pop and soul infused sound.
