Acclaimed Sydney producer Hayden James has teamed up with Grammy-nominated vocalist and songwriter Elderbrook for his new single, On Your Own. The track serves as the latest taste of the musicians hotly-anticipated sophomore album, LIFTED, set to arrive this April.
Working on the song with Grammy-nominated producer, DJ and mixing engineer Cassian, the punchy release places Elderbrook's dreamy vocals atop frenzied synth lines, building to euphoric vocal melodies throughout the chorus.
"Cass [Cassian] and I worked out this high melodic, harmonic synth lead line line you hear in the pre chorus. The marriage of the melody with Elderbrook’s soaring vocal is such a moment... it’s all about harmony for me. We knew we had something special once we got that down. This one feels like a true Hayden x Cassian x Elderbrook collab. It has huge energy and is a true dance floor feel.” James shares of the track.
Elderbrook adds, “Was great to team up with Hayden again to make this song. The lyrics and song mean a lot to me. And the meaning of them is to encourage people to be true to themselves and not be hard on themselves.”
Having begun working on the album in late 2020, the producer had one thought in mind whilst making the record; to bring people together once again and unite through music. Enlisting Boo Seeka, Jem Cooke, SIDEPIECE, YAEGER, Elderbrook and Cassian across the collection of songs, the record is set to capture the energy of James' live shows, made complete with lush production and captivating vocal textures.
James adds of the record, “LIFTED” was born out of the yearning for some light and positivity after a tough last few years for everyone. As I started writing the album, I kept coming back to the idea of creating something energetic and live and super uplifting that could bring people together again. I began working on the album late 2020 and used all the time off I had from touring to make something special because I knew the return to live music would be epic, a major vibe. The result is a huge emotional, energetic dance record, with elements of piano-house, melodic house and a positive tone and feel that can be found across all tracks. When I write an album, everything has a place and a purpose, and it’s all part of the bigger story. I’m so happy with the journey of this album."
