Watch our interview with Carla Wehbe!
Sydney-based artist Carla Wehbe has treated us with her new single, is forever off the table?.
Opening with a heartbreaking piano-led verse, Wehbe's bewitching vocals soar above as she begins to unpack the on/off nature of an unsteady relationship. Building to bright and choppy chords above distinct guitar melodies, the dynamic release places Wehbe's storytelling lyricism at the forefront. The release arrives alongside a cinematic visual, directed by Kyle Caulfield, which introduces us to the singers time-traveling space cowboy persona.
"I wrote ‘is forever off the table?’ at a time in my life where I was desperate for anything to hold on to, that might give me a sense of security, comfort or a just feeling that told me I was meant to be here. It’s about the fantasy worlds you create in your head while you cling for dear life to the hope that they could one day be reality. It’s about the deep desire for that forever feeling, whatever it may be. The introduction is the heartbreaking inner monologue, before the abrupt awakening by the verse to the current reality. ‘is forever off the table?’ is for anyone who‘s ever felt like an alien, because even aliens deserve to be loved.” the singer shares.
Exploring every facet of her creativity, Wehbe is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer, taking control over every piece of art she creates. In 2020, Wehbe released debut EP Half Past Nine, which explores themes of love, the juxtaposition of beauty, human connection and the vulnerability of living out your own truth.
